“Concrete has the ability to be formed and shaped to whatever imagination and skill allow, with its strength allowing us to achieve dramatic architectural features, such as large cantilevered surfaces. Concrete has a huge range of colouring and finishing possibilities, from decorative polished stone with exposed aggregate to a characterful rough texture.
I see concrete as artificial stone, imagined geology. Variations of aggregates, cement, and process allow for near endless possibilities in colour, texture, and form. For me casting with concrete represents the opportunity to play on an architectural scale. My practice as a painter complements the composition of the surface finishes, with a feel for texture, light and visual weight.”
Based in Fife, Nicholas Denney Studio provides fine concrete design and fabrication for private clients, architects and cultural institutions. The Studio has over 20 years of experience working with industry leading landscape, interior and arts manufacturing companies.
Nicholas Denney Studio offer a full design, fabrication and installation service. Commercial and domestic. This can range from entire kitchens and bathrooms to individual elements such as worktops and sinks. We are as happy working from a drawing providing a bespoke service as we are taking a brief and providing a full design. Whatever the scale we can offer an original, quality, design led flexible service.
As specialists in fine concrete production, we pride ourselves on our problem solving abilities. Alongside our expertise in concrete we really enjoy the supporting textures and processes involved in top quality joinery and cabinet making. Using where possible locally sourced hardwoods, our ability to let timber interact visually and structurally allows quality, beautiful constructions.
“We’ve worked with Nick on several bespoke concrete elements, including sinks, worktops, and some unusual one-off requests. From the outset, he’s been proactive, thoughtful, and very strong on detail.
What we particularly value is his problem-solving approach — he doesn’t just deliver what’s asked, he actively looks for better ways to achieve it and is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure the result is right. Communication is clear, expectations are managed well, and the finished work consistently meets a high standard.
I’d have no hesitation in recommending Nick and look forward to our continued work with him.”

Architects and designers can be confident in the studio's fabrication expertise, with a proven track record of delivering quality installations on time with minimum fuss. Our extensive experience working with concrete allows a knowledge and specialism to realise ambitious projects within boundaries set by the specific demands of the project. We can employ lightweight casting techniques alongside more traditional in-situ pours. Our extensive knowledge of sealants and finishes allow us to meet the most exacting of client requirements and expectations.
There is a real benefit to casting objects. A negative space gives opportunities for seamless objects. Forms and moulds can be finished in ways that are unique to working in negative. We use a range of techniques from traditional sculptural techniques such as rubber moulds through to the use of fibreglass, and timber. Quite often we use a combination of these to find bespoke solutions. We quite often have our forms laser or cnc cut, and 3d printing is a useful tool for more complex shapes. For large scale projects we have a group of trusted collaborators we have been working with on a long term basis.
Our technical knowledge and ability to solve problems allow a scope of fabrication outcomes we like to think unrivalled in the material. These include small high detail items like guitars or signage to large architectural scale installations, public art and sculptural furniture.
“We are a team of interior designers and shopfitters, and we have worked with Nick on two completely different projects. On both occasions, he delivered outstanding results. He is a pleasure to work with, extremely knowledgeable about materials and processes, and always goes the extra mile to ensure client satisfaction. There is no doubt that we will work with Nick again.”

Play and experimentation have always been at the core of product development, resulting in an original technique for colouring concrete. The Studio draws on Nicholas’ family background in construction and his art and design practice informed by Brutalism, Modernism and 20th Century architecture. A love of clean lines, bold shapes and quality materials draw inspiration from designers and architects such as Carlos Scarpa and Jean Prouvé. Innovation is driven by a continual creative practice. An interest in how the built environment relates to the natural world has inspired an exploration of naturalised form and pattern, referencing abstract expressionism.
Nicholas Denney Studio prides itself in our growing knowledge of concrete and skill in application which allows us to offer something truly unique, executed perfectly.
Nicholas Denney Studio design projects and furniture pieces have featured in HTSI Magazine, House & Garden, Living Etc, Homes & Interiors Scotland, Design Milk, wallpaper online and STIR.
